Recent epidemiological studies show that 1 in every 44 children has autism in the United States today. With that being said, many parents are challenged to enhance their child’s social skills, communication mechanisms, attention, and mitigate repetitive behaviors everyday. Autism is one of many conditions we treat at MyBrainDR, with each of our autistic patients being unique in their strengths and challenges. However, a common denominator amongst them all is the benefits and struggles they have each overcome since beginning neurofeedback therapy.

Autism can appear as early as 2 or 3 years old causing multiple developmental delays. It is suggested that early intervention is critical for children with autism, allowing them to prosper later in life. Despite the varying models of early intervention, we still ask what is the best method to provide a non-invasive process which supports optimal gains for the future? Neurofeedback therapy may just be the solution parents are searching for. At MyBrainDr, we see patients as young as 7 years old.

The current literature suggests extremely promising results for individuals with autism. A particular study was done with young boys with autism aged 6-8 years old. The group who received neurofeedback therapy performed significantly better on a series of tests post-treatment than those who received no neurofeedback. According to the results, the desired changes in attention were achieved concluding that neurofeedback does improve attention in children with high functioning autism.
